Sex and the City is a perfect example of Neptune in the Seventh House. Yes, it is true, I am a hardcore Sex and the City fan! I have watched every episode from the original series, the movies, and I am currently up to date on the last episode of And Just Like That. Even when there are no new episodes, I enjoy re-watching my favorite show repeatedly. Now that we've got that out of the way, we can talk about why there is a connection between this beloved franchise and Neptune in the Seventh House. A few weeks ago, I was browsing through my library in hopes of revisiting a book that I hadn't read in a while. And boom, there it was! The Book of Neptune by Steven Forrest. My astrologer Sade had recommended I purchase some of his books, and it was one of the best recommendations I have ever received! Steven Forrest is one of the founders of Evolutionary Astrology. He has managed to weave astrology and metaphysics together in a way that every chapter he has ever written appears to be a golden nugget! I decided to let my thumbs determine what to read, and I found myself on the 26th chapter about Neptune in the Seventh House. Darling, when I tell you my jaw kept dropping to the floor as if I was reading this for the first time, it had me astonished! As the internet once again puts Sex and the City on the map for discussing relationships, both platonic and sexually intimate, it only makes sense to share insight from Steven Forrest's book about the "catalytic impact of spiritual friends." In what ways have Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda demonstrated the complexity of human intimacy through their friendships and their intimate relationships with men, women, and non-binary individuals?

It is only right to make sure we clarify what Neptune in the Seventh House represents, and what "spiritual" means. The planet Neptune governs our dreams, illusions, creative expression, compassion, sensitivity, intuition, our escapist excursions, wisdom, and spiritual awareness. In other words, the mystery of life. The seventh House in astrology is known for partnerships and relationships of all kinds, including family, platonic connections, romantic, business, public enemies, neighbors, and the list goes on. Now, spiritual means, "relating to or affecting the human spirit or soul as opposed to material or physical things." I found it essential to define "spiritual" as some viewers and fans of Sex and the City may not have seen all of the characters as particularly spiritual. We can all acknowledge that they had great-paying careers that have afforded them a particular lifestyle, but are they seen as woo-woo warriors? Sure, there was that episode where Miranda asked Carrie to be Brady's godmother. Samantha letting the ladies know how to release a ghost, not to mention her fascination with a priest and a celibate shaman, and Charlotte converting to Judaism, and the list goes on. However, all their conversations at the coffee shop or over dinner were examples of them discussing how their connections with others affected their human spirit or soul.

The entire franchise of Sex and the City is about how their connections, specifically their love life, affected their spirit and influenced their choices. In his book, The Book of Neptune, Steven Forrest states that the leaking energy of having Neptune in the Seventh House was "Codependency. Wasting time on escapists and dreamers who always fail you. Quixotic romanticism. Turning away from support and affection." Codependency award goes to Carrie for her relationships with both Big and Aiden. Wasting time on escapists and dreamers award goes to Miranda for dating the Weight Watchers guy and that other guy who had the fetish of liking to get caught having sex! The Quixotic romanticism award goes to Charlotte before Harry. And lastly, even though the internet has yet to discuss the real issues behind this character's lifestyle because they are too busy glorifying her "detached" and thrilling sex life, the turning away of support and affection goes to Samantha Jones, who initially struggled with her courtship with Richard Wright and Smith Jerrod. Since these ladies have already declared they were each other's soulmates on Carrie's 35th birthday, we already knew and believed that they had a sacred bond and chose to honor each other no matter what was going on in their love life even though it was the "the blind leading the blind" without a doubt their fortunes were intertwined which is another meaning behind Neptune being in the Seventh House.
"The catalytic impact of spiritual friends. Truth so vast that no one person can hold them. Committed love as a spiritual path. Passing through doors that others have opened. Corroboration and confirmation of one's spiritual vision." Steven Forrest explaining the 7th House, everyone! Now, he continues by mentioning that Neptunian people are, in fact, sensitive souls who will be attracted to other Neptunian souls. Meaning, even though Miranda, Charlotte, Samantha, and Carrie had different issues and even contrasting personalities, the common thread they shared outside of their love for one another was their sensitivity. I won't break down every moment where their sensitive nature was evident, especially for characters like Carrie and Charlotte, where it was more obvious. Still, we can explore the scene in season 3, episode 18, where Miranda and Carrie are thrift shopping, Carrie mentions she is going out to lunch with Big after having engaged with him in an affair that broke up her relationship with Aiden and his marriage to Natasha:
Miranda: Do you wanna go to the Hopper exhibit Saturday afternoon?
Carrie: I can't. I have to work.
Carrie: I lied. I don't have to work. I'm meeting Big for lunch, and I didn't think you'd approve.
Miranda: Wait. You're meeting Big?
Carrie: He called. He sounded upset, and he said he needs to talk.
Miranda: Since when does Big talk?
Carrie: What does that mean? He's upset about Natasha leaving...
Miranda: You know what? I'm not holding your hand through this again.
Carrie: I'm not asking you to hold my anything. We're just having lunch.
Miranda: It's a huge mistake.
Carrie: It's not a huge mistake. It's lunch.
Miranda: Wake up, Carrie. How many more times are you gonna go through this? He is bad for you. Jesus, every time you get near him, you turn into this pathetic, needy, insecure victim. What pisses me off the most is that you are more than willing to go back for more.
Carrie: I am not going back for more, and I can't even believe...I can't believe you would say that to me.
Miranda: If you start up with Big again...
Carrie: I am not starting up with Big again.
Miranda: If you do, I don't wanna know anything about it. I mean it, Carrie. No calls. No crying.
Carrie: What are you gonna do, Miranda? You're gonna cut me out of your life like you did to Steve?
Miranda: What?
Carrie: The first sign of any little weakness or flaw, and you just write people off—my God, Miranda. You are so judgmental. You can say I'm pathetic and needy, and I can't say anything to you? You know. Everybody is not as tough as you, Miranda. People... Some of us make mistakes.
Now, we know the ladies make up, apologize, right their wrongs, and move on, but this heated argument is a perfect example of what it means to have Neptune in the Seventh House! The truth had to be spoken, and it is even required in these types of dynamics. Steven Forrest writes, "If you have Neptune in the Seventh House, you have critical soul-business with such people. You can't do what you are here to do in the world without their triggering an impact upon your consciousness. They hold the mirror of your spirituality before you; they remind you of who you really are. They are catalysts of your evolution." Even if you have never watched Sex and the City, we have all on some level had to speak the truth in connections where not only were things getting out of hand, but when those we are partnered with may have been walking down a path that was less favorable and simply did not make any damn sense, haha! I couldn't help but wonder, maybe Sex and the City is more than just four privileged white women trying to figure out their chaotic sex lives, perhaps they too are a mirror for us or how the modern Millennial will navigate their feelings in a world that has coerced and pressured them to forget what their soul is truly seeking.
