Hello, darling! Let's talk about one of the oldest, or arguably the oldest, divination system to exist! If you're unfamiliar with IFA, I will do my best to explain it in simple terms. IFA is an indigenous spiritual tradition and divination system of the Yoruba people of Nigeria. Dafa is the act of divination or "IFA reading" that involves the interpretation of Odu IFA by an initiated elder or priest. In a future post, we can discuss how binary coding originated from IFA and the elemental dignities of each major Odu. Now, what is Odu IFA? The anatomy of Odu comprises 16 signs, which are the 16 Odu Mejis. The 16 major odus are listed in order of seniority. The order goes as follows: Ogbe Meji, Oyeku Meji, Iwori Meji, Odi Meji, Irosun Meji, Owonrin Meji, Obara Maji, Okanran Meji, Ogunda Meji, Osa Meji, Ika Meji, Oturopon Meji, Otura Meji, Irete Meji, Ose Meji, and Ofun Meji. Seniority is paramount as the order establishes specific communication dynamics provided through the Oracle (IFA). Each sign is associated with a particular energy and holds a clear message.
